Traffic delays heading east on Causeway Bridge

Traffic on the bridge is currently
backed up due to emergency repairs.
Traffic delays heading east along the Route 72 Causeway Bridge are being caused by maintenance crews performing repairs to a hole in the bridge deck. The hole is located on the deck just before Cedar Bonnet Island, which is approximately ¾ of a mile from Ship Bottom. A portion of the right eastbound lane has been closed for the emergency repairs.
Crew workers are expected to continue working during this evening’s rush hour, a press release from the New Jersey Department of Transportation stated. Motorists heading to Long Beach Island should plan their trips accordingly.
The work is expected to be completed by midnight tonight, and the lane will be reopened.
Variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work. For real-time travel information, motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website at 511nj.org.
