In honor of May Day, members of the Garden Club of Long Beach Island gathered on Monday, May 2, to create 30 baskets of flowers along with cards to be delivered to those in need of some extra cheer. The committee, chaired by Madelyn Pietrucha, collects names of people living on LBI or in Stafford Township who are sick, shut in, or in need of a little joy. The names are received from the members as well as local churches.
“Amid a morning of friendship, coffee and creativity, the group of about 20 ladies create beautiful flower baskets and cards to wish the recipients a Happy May Day,” said Bonnie Korbeil, a member of the garden club.
When the baskets and cards are all completed, the members deliver them to the recipients.
“It is an activity enjoyed by the garden club members, and the result brightens the day for someone that can use a ray of sunshine in the form of flowers,” said Korbeil.
