Beach Haven School Board approves new superintendent, adopts new budget

Jackson resident Carl Krushinski, who has been a principal in the Stafford Township School District for the past 12 years, will serve as the Beach Haven School’s new superintendent beginning July 1.
Krushinski is taking over for Richard Starodub, who was hired as the school’s acting superintendent after the school board released former Superintendent EvaMarie Raleigh from her contract at the end of September.

Carl Krushinski has been approved
for a three-year term at the school.
Krushinski hopes to help rebuild community trust with the school leadership, which he said has waned a bit in the the last couple years. He said he grew fond of the school when he came to help out for a few days last June, when Raleigh was on leave.
“It’s amazing, and they experience a learning style that’s a little bit different than a big school because the whole school can participate in going down to the bay and the beach and collecting creatures there,” Krushinski said. “It’s just a unique, little community that I fell in love with. I’m just excited. Everyone I’ve met there is phenomenal, and I’m looking forward to working there.”
The board approved Krushinski’s three-year term at the regular board meeting on Monday, April 25.
“This decision was the result of an extensive search and interview process, developed with both community and staff input,” Irene Hughes, board president, stated. “Mr. Krushinski joins Beach Haven School as a lifelong educator, having served the students of Stafford Township. Mr. Krushinski has extensive and successful elementary education, special education as well as administrative experience.”
Krushinski was chosen out of 25 applicants.
“Mr. Krushinski impressed the board with his dedication to elementary education; his successful, relevant administrative experience; and his appreciation for unique educational opportunities the Beach Haven School provides to the children of the borough,” Hughes said.
Linda Downing, who was also hired following Raleigh’s release, will serve alongside Krushinski as the interim principal on a per diem basis during the new school year.
“As interim principal, Ms. Downing has been an integral component to the Beach Haven School’s success this past year,” Hughes stated. “Their collaboration and collective experience will greatly assist the Beach Haven School community during the 2016-2017 school year. This plan provides the Beach Haven School community excellent educational oversight, in a manner that is not cost prohibitive, and Mr. Krushinski and Ms. Downing will work to return us to a school with a single administrator serving both the superintendent and principal roles during the next school year.”
During the meeting, the board also adopted a $2,221,649 budget for the 2016-17 school year. The local tax rate per $100 of assessed property value is 10.7551 cents. It is an estimated increase of half of one penny from the 2015-16 budget, Brian Falkowski, the school's business administrator, noted.
