A total of 85 children were involved in the activity.
Long Beach Township PBA 373 teamed up with the Where Angels Play Foundation on Saturday, April 4, to host their first Easter Egg Hunt at Lauren Rousseau’s Playground in Bayview Park in Brant Beach. The playground, constructed by the foundation’s Sandy Ground Project around Mother’s Day last May, is part of a total of 26 playgrounds built in locations affected by Superstorm Sandy to memorialize the Connecticut students and teachers killed in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. LBI’s playground memorializes Rosseau, who was a teacher at Sandy Hook.
“Despite the windy conditions, the egg hunt was a huge success,” said Long Beach Township Police Officer Megan Keller. “PBA 373 State Delegate Brendan Kerlin said he was delighted about the event and turnout,” she added.
Kerlin is looking forward to making this an annual event.
The free event was open to the public, drawing 150 people, including 85 children. Prior to the start, the township’s public works department set up designated areas for different age groups of children to participate.
PBA 373 provided bagels and light refreshments. Members of the Southern Regional High School Key Club also assisted with the event, led by their adviser, LBI Kiwanian Peg Malley.
PBA 373 has also thanked township Mayor Joseph Mancini, Katlyn Forsyth, Lynda Wells and Bageleddies for their support.
