A guided Full Moon Night Hike at Bass River State Forest will encourage participants, by using their ears more than their eyes, to learn what makes the Pine Barrens so special. Listen for wildlife and get acquainted with a different perspective on the 2-mile hike over flat terrain on Saturday, Aug. 9, from 8:15 to 10 p.m.
“Participants may hear frogs and toads, see a bat near the Lake Absegami bridge and learn that they don’t have to use a flashlight to see the forest from a completely different perspective,” said Cynthia Coritz, superintendent of Bass River State Forest.
The program is available to the first 25 people, ages 7 and older, who register at the Forest Office in New Gretna. Registration costs $2 per person and must be paid prior to the hike.
Closed shoes or hiking boots as well as insect repellent and a flashlight are recommended.
