A 15.5-mile bike ride along Long Beach Island is being hosted on Monday, Oct. 12, at 9:30 a.m. by Island Baptist Church to help raise awareness for breast cancer. The Columbus Day Bike Ride from Beach Haven to Barnegat Light is a casual, one-way trip. Transportation of bikes from the end of the ride to the church will be provided, though participants are welcome to bike back.
“The first Columbus Day Bike Ride took place in 2014 and was great fun,” said Ashlee Fraser of Island Baptist Church. “In 2015 the ride is expanding to include families of breast cancer patients and survivors, students and parents off from school for the holiday, area churches, local business owners, retirees, bike enthusiasts and those just wanting to enjoy an active day out on LBI, ride for a purpose and make new friends.”
Riders should wear a helmet and dress in pink. Lunch, water and a backpack will be provided.
“IBC is very active in the summer months providing community events for families,” said Pastor Luke Fraser. “With the gorgeous weather on LBI in October and the important cause of breast cancer awareness, we are very excited to participate in this event on Columbus Day.”
Participants are requested to arrive at the church, located at 215 Third Street in Beach Haven, at least 15 minutes prior to the start of the ride. Registration is free. Donations and prayer requests are welcome but not required.
To sign up or request use of a bike for the event, call Ashlee Fraser at 302-893-3737.
