The bicycles are sold to the highest bidders.
Residents and summer visitors who need a more efficient mode of transportation than walking or driving around Long Beach Island will have a chance to score a new ride during Beach Haven borough’s annual bike auction. The public event, which auctions off bicycles that were abandoned or picked up during the course of last year, will be held at the borough’s Emergency Operations Center, located at 420 Pelham Ave., on Thursday, July 10, at 11 a.m. This year’s auctioneer is Councilman Edward Kohlmeir.
Twenty bicycles, including children’s and adults’ bikes as well as former police bicycles, will be on sale.
“It’s very reasonable bidding,” said Sherry Mason, borough clerk.
The bikes have been locked up and kept in storage at the EOC for the past year.
