Wear community spirit on your sleeve and make a difference in Holgate during the second annual Holgate Clean Up Day, presented by the Holgate Taxpayers Association, on Saturday, May 3. Participants will help pick up debris and other garbage from the marshes, streets and sidewalks of the southern-most town of Long Beach Island.

“This is not a beach cleanup; it's a neighborhood cleanup,” said Tom Beaty, vice president of the Holgate Taxpayers Association.
The event is being held in conjunction with Long Beach Township, Bio Resource Solutions, Jersey Cares and Helping Hands of New Jersey. It was started a number of years ago to help clean up common areas the township does not have the manpower to get to and to also bring the community together, Beaty explained.
Volunteers should wear clothing meant for getting dirty. Long pants and long shirtsleeves as well as a hat and sunscreen are recommended. Gloves, trash bags, water and T-shirts will be provided.
Registration opens at 8 a.m. Participants should meet at the south parking lot in Holgate. All ages are welcome, and refreshments will be served at the end of the event, at noon.
