“They help everybody here, so we want to help them raise some money,” said Kristy Davis, a co-owner of Foster’s.
The fundraiser was started last spring after the auxiliary reorganized in February following Superstorm Sandy, explained Melanie Markoski, president of the auxiliary.
“So many of us were displaced by the storm. We knew people weren’t really ready to landscape (last year), but we thought some flowers on some people’s decks would bring some color back to the Island,” she said. “It was so close to Mother’s Day that we just decided that it could be something that we do every year.”
The funds raised during the auxiliary’s events help support the fire company.
“When there are structure fires, we bring the guys food and water and Gatorade, and most of our monies go toward that,” said Markoski.
