For more than 10 years, the American Heart Association has sponsored National Wear Red Day to raise awareness in the fight against heart disease in women. In honor of this work, the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey plans to “Go Red for Women” in February, as part of the AHA’s efforts to raise awareness and funds in the battle against heart disease and stroke. This year’s Wear Red Day on Feb. 7 is part of a series of mostly free, public events at Stockton from Feb. 5 through 14.
“Stockton has been involved in the American Heart Association’s ‘Go Red for Women’ efforts for the past three years,” Dot Saatkamp, wife of Stockton President Herman Saatkamp, said in a press release. “This year, the Stockton community has responded to our call-to-action with great enthusiasm. There are events planned that we believe everyone can benefit from. Our goal is to help raise awareness in the fight against heart disease and stroke. If we save just one life, our efforts will have been worthwhile,” she added.
An information table with some heart-healthy snacks will be set up in the lobby of the Manahawkin Instructional Site, located at 712 East Bay Ave. in Stafford Township, throughout the week of Feb. 3. The supplies will be available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday, and from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday and Friday. A “Top 10 Reasons to Smile” event will be held in room 1 between 1 and 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. Join Raina Gazurian of AtlantiCare for a lunch and learn about women’s heart health and ask questions about designing a healthy lifestyle on Wednesday, Feb. 19, from noon to 1 p.m.
